On February 16 and 17, the Institute of Medical Biotechnology hosted the International SAOT Workshop on Modern Biophotonics in collaboration with the Erlangen Graduate School of Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT). In this scientific event, several international experts presented fascinating lectures on the state-of-the-art in their respective fields. We were very glad to welcome Thomas Pingel from the company Miltenyi Biotec, Oliver Hayden from the TUM in Munich, Jürgen Popp from the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology in Jena, Roarke Horstmeyer from Duke University in Durham as well as Balpreet Singh Ahluwalia, Florian Ströhl and Dilip Prasad from the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsö. Although, we would have loved to welcome these speakers on-site and in person, we were very pleased with the great success of this virtual workshop from a safe distance with about 50 participants. The event was chaired by Prof. Oliver Friedrich and coordinated by our most recent doctoral graduate Lucas Kreiß.
