On the 20th of November, the faculty of engineering celebrated its 50th anniversary. The festive occasion, taking place via Zoom, was attended by over 200 participants and themed around „Energy, Environment and Climate. Our Dean, Prof. Dr. Andreas P. Fröba, presented the faculty’s annual report, followed by a scientific talk of Prof. Dr. Karl J.J. Mayrhofer, director of the Helmholtz-Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy (HI ERN) centred around the question of „Hydrogen technologies for the energy transition – a technical research perspective?“. In addition, the celebrations also honoured all award winners of PhD/Doctoral Prizes in 2019, who were also given the opportunity to present their graduation topic as a Science Slam to a broad audience. As such, our former PhD student, Dr. Michael Haug, who was awarded with the Doctoral Prize of the „Freundeskreis der Technischen Fakultät“, presented his PhD Thesis in form of a entertaining impression report that emphasises the importance of integrated sensor technologies and their need for automation.
